The second largest Chinese smartphone maker recently spoke about one of its latest innovations. This is a new charging method that could represent a revolution. Indeed, it would work thanks to the ambient air!
The “Mi Air Charge Technology”
Xiaomi is one of the largest smartphone manufacturers in the world, behind Huawei and Samsung. And this company could further expand its empire with new technology full of promise. In a statement of January 29, 2021, Xiaomi discussed Mi Air Charge Technology: a new method of wireless and contactless charging. The user simply needs to place their device in a radius of 7 meters maximum around the charging station.
The source feeding the station is none other than Ambiant air. According to Xiaomi, this innovation would concern smartphones, but also computers, tablets and other connected watches. It would also be possible to charge several devices at the same time (see video at the end of the article).
“The isolated charging stack developed by Xiaomi has five built-in phase interference antennas that can accurately detect the location of the smartphone. A phase control network consisting of 144 antennas transmits millimeter waves directly to the phone by beamforming“, Can we read in the press release.
Xiaomi thinks big
One of the main interests of Mi Air Charge Technology is none other than the possibility of remove charging cables. These tend to multiply when you have several devices. In addition, the smartphone can now serve as a means of payment or train ticket, or even integrate the home automation system of a home. In other words, being out of battery today seems less and less acceptable. Thus, install charging stations at key locations could be very convenient.
According to the press release, this technology was designed to be as simplistic as possible. For example, the presence of obstacles between the device and the station does not represent any obstacle to loading.
Xiaomi has also indicated that it wants continue development of its innovation. Ultimately, homes and businesses could become 100% wireless and contactless. In addition, other devices such as speakers and other lights could also be recharged this way. However, this technology will take some time to come to market. Indeed, Xiaomi has already indicated that in 2021, none of its products will integrate it. In addition, the giant only provided no release date, even approximate.
