He has become one of the most famous coaches in world tennis. Rafael Nadal’s uncle and former coach, 20 Grand Slam titles, now heads the Rafa Nadal Academy in Manacor (Mallorca), where the champion’s family comes from and lives. But this week in Monte-Carlo, Toni Nadal made his return to the circuit, as assistant coach of young and promising Canadian Félix Auger-Aliassime. The opportunity for Time to talk to him about this new collaboration, but also about the evolution of tennis in times of pandemic, the rise of the rising generation and Federer’s chances of winning another Grand Slam tournament.
Le Temps: What motivated you to start coaching a player on the circuit again?
