On Monday morning, the Burmese army arrested Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi, President Win Myint, and several senior representatives of the ruling National League for Democracy (NLD) party. A few hours later, it declared a state of emergency for a year and placed its commander-in-chief, General Min Aung Hlaing, at the head of the country.
