What if the madness of Wall Street contributed to further widen the economic gap between Europe and the United States? Since the start of the year, more than 250 new special purpose acquisition companies (SPAC) have been listed on Wall Street, more already than for the whole of 2020.

Also known as blank check companies, or even “empty shells”, these entities have the sole vocation of acquiring a business which is often not yet known. The founder of SPAC has two or three years to choose his bride, a start-up or an established company with whom he will marry.
