The maritime industry is soaring despite the virus

No lull in sight in the merchant navy. After the blockade of the Suez Canal by the Ever Given at the end of March, the imbalances in the location of containers and the surge in prices for transporting them, the purchases of boats reached a new peak.

In March, the industry ordered 72 vessels, with a total capacity of 866,000 twenty-foot equivalent (TEU), shattering a 2011 record (50 boats or 570,000 TEU), according to the firms. Bimco and Clarksons. In one month, shipowners have placed almost as many orders as in 2020.
