For US President Joe Biden, who has made the fight against climate change one of his priorities, this was the first major diplomatic initiative. By inviting his Chinese and Russian counterparts, Xi Jinping and Vladimir Poutin, and several dozen politicians from countries that emit large CO2 emissions, he has already succeeded in a first bet: to show that America is once again serious in terms of climate and that the climate issue must be at the top of the agenda of world leaders.
