The CFF line between Lausanne and Friborg remains interrupted until early Monday morning, following a landslide at La Conversion on Friday morning. The clearing and securing work will last until Sunday evening, CFF said on Saturday.
Initially scheduled for midday on Saturday, the reopening of the line has been postponed. The clearing of some 150m3 of land which covered the tracks should be completed on Saturday afternoon. Two mechanical shovels and two construction trains are at work.
The retaining wall suffered heavy damage. It must be reinforced by means of anchors. All the embankment located above the tracks must also be secured by nets, said CFF. The railway, cables and contact lines must be checked before the line is reestablished.
Detour via Biel
Travelers traveling between Bern / Zurich and Lausanne / Geneva should continue to take the Jura foot line, via Biel. Travelers from Payerne and Friborg travel via Yverdon-le-Bains. Substitute buses have been set up for regional traffic between Palézieux and Lausanne. SBB warns that longer journey times should be expected.
