Medical devices threatened without a framework agreement

How to express your frustration with the institutional aspect through a decision concerning health? In the midst of a pandemic, the exercise is risky for the European Commission, which therefore opted for the in-between on Wednesday: if the Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA), in this case for medical devices – which expires on the 26th May -, is not updated due to lack of progress on the framework agreement, the devices already certified and present on the European market will remain valid beyond this date (which corresponds to the entry into force of new European rules ).

An amendment has been proposed to this effect to the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (Seco), which will have to respond to it before May 26. In this logic, future Swiss producers of medical devices will have to have their products certified in the EU, which will cost more and lengthen the deadlines.
