In October 2020, shortly after the assassination of Samuel Paty by an Islamist of Chechen origin, Kahina Bahloul received a phone call from Chems-Eddine Hafiz, the rector of the Paris mosque. His interlocutor invited him to come and meditate with him on the very site of the tragedy, in front of the college where the professor of history and geography was teaching. A gesture that touched her deeply. “Chems-Eddine Hafiz is a tolerant, very open man. It is a voice of liberal Islam, one that fundamentalists are trying to stifle, ”she says.
