Infrastructure: India plays the European card to counter China

The enemies of my enemies are my friends. As the United States and the European Union (EU) openly treat China as a strategic rival, India is playing the Western card all the way. In a completely new approach, it is joining forces with the European Union (EU) to set up an infrastructure financing program around the world. The model: the new Silk Road, also known as the Belt & Road Initiative (BRI), a project dear to Chinese President Xi Jinping. Since 2013, Beijing has financed roads, rails, ports and airports, energy and telecommunications in around 100 countries, including EU member states. India shuns the Chinese program.
