The whole world was shaken on August 4 by the images of a devastating explosion that left the city of Beirut in ruins, killing and injuring several people.
While still trying to understand the nameless tragedy that struck the capital of Lebanon, a photo posted by a photographer on Facebook struck a chord with Internet users.
On it, we see a nurse holding three newborn babies and talking on the phone.
The photo was taken at Saint George Hospital University Medical Center, which was severely damaged in the explosion. Four nurses lost their lives while 200 patients and workers were injured.
“In 16 years of press photography, I’ve seen a lot of wars,” wrote Bilal Marie Jawish, the man behind the photo.
“I can say that I have never seen anything like it today.“
He called the nurse a real heroine, as she continued to do her job of caring for three newborns simultaneously, surrounded by bloodshed and death.
Following the explosion, the hospital went several hours without power.
In all, more than 100 people have lost their lives, more than 4,000 have been injured and hundreds are still missing.
