Christophe Darbellay was the first to launch the debate on the ban on the burqa, by tabling a first parliamentary intervention in 2006, rejected by the Federal Council. Then president of the PDC, he had put it back in November 2009 after 57.5% of the Swiss had accepted the initiative against the minarets. Today president of the Valais government, Christophe Darbellay has other priorities and the question of the full veil no longer fascinates the Christian Democrats, who are also the last not to have taken an official position.
