SpaceX will work with Geometric Energy Corporation to launch a cubesat around the Moon in 2022. And surprise, the mission will be fully funded by Dogecoin, the now famous cryptocurrency emblazoned with the head of a dog.
Dogecoin is an open source peer-to-peer digital currency emblazoned with the head of a dog that became a famous meme a few years ago. Established initially as a fun and friendly alternative to the overly serious world of cryptocurrency, the currency quickly began to develop a community around the world. And one of his fervent “admirers” is none other than Elon Musk who, at the rate of his statements, continues to upset the price of the cryptocurrency.
The doge on the moon
That being said, Musk had recently mentioned on Tweeter the idea of sending the Doge to the Moon, “literally”. This statement, made on April 1, however, suggested that it was just a joke. Some also pointed out a mere reference to a phrase well known to investors, “towards the moon“(“to the Moon “), in other words “towards the summits ”. In reality, it was quite serious.
The boss of SpaceX has just announced the launch of a mission entirely funded by DogeCoin by the company Geometric Energy Corporation.
Called Doge-1, this mission will aim to release a cubesat of around forty kilos in orbit around the Moon. Once there, the mini-satellite will collect information on the lunar surface using sensors and on-board cameras. It will be launched in 2022 aboard a Falcon 9 rocket.
“This mission will demonstrate the application of cryptocurrency beyond Earth’s orbit and lay the foundation for interplanetary trade”SpaceX vice president of commercial sales Tom Ochinero said in a press release. “We are delighted to launch DOGE-1 on the Moon!”
Geometric Energy Corporation confirmed the plans for this mission this Sunday, May 9. However, the company has not disclosed its financial worth.

Remember, however, that the Dogecoin has just wiped a rough week after a new intervention by Elon Musk on the set of Saturday Night Live.
During fake interview, the boss of SpaceX, who also took the opportunity to reveal to the world his Asperger syndrome, had played a financial expert declaring that the “Dogecoin was a scam”. If the sequence was once again a joke, the price of the currency still collapsed. According to Reuteurs, its value would have fallen from 0.65 dollars to 0.47 dollars (- 36%).
